Northern lights, pageant of olors, powdery snow and
clear, blue sea are things one can relate to winter. Do we think
that this season is just for extreme sport
enthusiasts?
That is simply not the case. Winter
adventures are for everybody! Returning to a warm, cozy
holiday house after an active day out in the cold snow or water,
what could be better than that!
Cross-country and
snowshoes
"Born with skis on our feet?" - there is
certainly an incredible network of trails around the country. We
have described some of the trails that can be found near the
well-equipped holiday houses. Night trails and alpine centers
open as soon as there is enough snow. The season for the mountain
trails usually opens at the end of January. Most trails are
prepared and in use by the middle of February and by Easter time
there are trails everywhere - both prepared and self-made. For
those who want to enjoy winter but don't have skiing experience, we
recommend snowshoes. The trips will be shorter but the experience
will be the same.
Freestyle
Freestyle is one of the fastest growing
winter sports and we are lucky to have some of the toughest terrain
in the world. Lyngen and Sunnmørsalpene are two excellent areas for
these activities. We must also mention Kårvatn which is another
freestyle paradise. You start the day with a nice, long trekk
uphill with Randonee or Telemark gear. When you get to the top, its
time for a fantastic downhill experience - from the top of
the alps to the edge of the sea.. The season starts at the end of
January and lasts until May in some places. In such places one
should have good knowledge about avalanches. Experience and
equipment are also important if you are going on glacier trips - if
you don't have experience take a guided tour.
Diving
Our diving destinations are described in a
separate section. The absolutely best time for diving is actually
during winter before the snow starts melting on land.
Conditions under water are like those during summer only better.
The water is colder, of course, but with a good wet suit we can
offer you a unique diving experience in crystal clear
waters.
