If you are interested in winter trips but aren't interested in
skiing, snowshoes are a good alternative. With snowshoes you can
follow the same trails that are used for hiking during the
summer.
There are several different types of snowshoes. Smaller
snowshoes are best for firm, packed trails. Choose a larger
snowshoe for off-track trips. Larger snowshoes can carry as much
weight as mountain skis. Shoes used with snowshoes should have
enough room for good thick socks and should be waterproof on the
warmest days. Dress in layers - underclothing, an in-between layer
and wind-proof outer clothing. Outer clothing should also be
waterproof if there is a chance of rain or sleet. Bring along a
warm jacket or pullover to keep you warm during breaks.
All of the following destinations rent snowshoes. More
information is available in the catalogue and on our website.
