Norway has a
long coastline and large ocean areas that are ideal for fishing
either from boat or from land. Sea fishing in our fjords and ocean
with a hand-held line is open to all. No licence is required. Below
you will find some general safety advice and a presentation of the
best areas for sea fishing.

Safety
tips at sea
Unfortunately many lives are lost every year due to the fact
that sports fishermen overrate their own and their boat's capacity.
Never risk your own or other's lives for the sake of a few fish. Be
careful - errors at sea can not be corrected.
Listen to
the weather report and ask local people for advice. There should be
a sea draft on all boats - be aware of underwater rocks and reefs.
Many of these are only visible at low tide.
If you
have rented a fishfinder or GPS study the instructions and learn
how to use them. Remember that large boats have the right
of way. It is not permitted to come
closer than 100 meters to fish farms.
Things to remember - compass, at least one cell
phone with a waterproof case, a reserve tank, a sea anchor, bailer
and first aid kit. Life
jackets er mandatory for all on
board.
A quota on
export of fish from Norway was imposed on June 1, 2006: 15 kg of
fish products plus one trophy fish.
