Vega offers a superb location for a holiday. Based in a working fishing port, we can take some great day trips (depending on the weather) between the islets and inlets in protected surroundings. This is the gateway to the world heritage site of Vega, where unique traditions are kept alive for generations. We have picked two of our best day trip alternatives for the 2009 season, and which one we choose will depend on weather conditions on the day.

Alternative 1
This trip goes to the old market town of Vegstein. The buildings, dating from the 1800s, have been restored and filled with a collection of valuable historic objects.
To get there, we paddle east between islets and inlets in sheltered waters passing the Guri current, which we can try our hand at if the tide is right. At Vegstein, we will be invited in for coffee and waffles including a guided tour. On the way back, we will beach on one of the many islets, and May-Britt will serve home-baked fishcakes for lunch.
Alternative 2
This trip will take us west near the distinctive island of Søla. On the way, we will paddle in sheltered waters as much as possible, but will have to cross a couple of open stretches. The landscape changes character and gets wilder and more dramatic the further west we go. Remember your camera, as Søla is spectacular when topped with clouds. We will land on a beach, and eat our lunch in the open air. May-Britt's home-baked fish cakes are usually on the menu!
