Not so many Fjord districts in Northern Norway can claim to have
such good stocks of large cod and halibut, given the long distance
they are from the open sea, but the triangular area between, Senja,
Andoya, and Harstad is definitely one that can.
Our top guides, Steffen Dietze and Volker Dapoz proved this when
they test-fished the area and took three halibut between 22kg and
50kg in just two days.
At the mouth of Kaasfjord around the island of Kaasholmen the
first spots there produced, cod, wolf fish, redfish, tusk, and
coalfish. The average weight of the fish increases as you reach the
hotspots about 3km north-west and 5km north of Kaasholmen. In this
area you can expect good results with big fish of all species; also
the shallow areas are very good for wolf-fish in the
springtime.
The deep-sea fans among you will definitely want to try the rocky
plateau called Draggrunnen for the big Tusk and huge Coalies; you
can also catch the much sought after redfish aswell.
