Experience Vega and the World Heritage! This is the perfect
place for hiking and with many possibilities, either by well-marked
routes in selected tracks, on the beach or at one of the many peaks
in Vega.
Norway Specific Tips:
- Waterproof or resistant footwear is a good idea, and don't be
surprised if your feet end up wet. Many of the trails go through
marshy areas, and it's very difficult to keep your feet dry.
- If your boots get wet, at the end of the day you can stuff
them with crumpled up newspaper to help them dry out. If they are
very wet, try changing the paper at least once.
- Take a map and refer to it often. Even on the marked trails it
is easy to lose your way since there can be other trails and sheep
tracks everywhere.
- Weather can change quickly, be prepared. Many of the mountain
trails go above the tree line, where it can quickly get windy,
rainy and foggy.
- There is cell phone coverage almost everywhere, and this is a
great emergency tool.
- Ask the locals for advice about the trail, how long it takes
to walk, etc. They will know best, and often have invaluable
information.
