The fishing opportunities here are almost unlimited: flatfish fishing and salmon trolling in the estuary of the Indrehuselva, about 5 km away, several smaller sandy and rocky plateaus for cod, pollack, haddock and, in the summer months, coalfish only about 5 minutes by boat away. It is approx. 10 km to the first top-class fishing spots in the mouth of the Frøysjønfjorden and if you want to fish the large cod and coalfish plateaus in the mouth of the Frøysjønfjorden to the open sea when the wind conditions are favourable, then you should plan about a 40-minute drive to get there. In the Midtgulen, right on your doorstep, you can catch all the fish species found in this region, but the piece size is rather average. There is a chance of larger specimens in the already mentioned Frøysjøen. If the weather is stable, you should definitely try your luck in the open sea. The sea area between the islands of Hovden and Frøya is considered an excellent area for big fish. You can experience good deep-sea fishing for larger ling and tusk on the edges between 150m and 200m in the Midtgulen estuary to Frøysjøen. We also caught redfish here – but only medium-sized specimens. If you are looking for big ling, then we recommend the area approx. 10 minutes by boat west of the mouth of the Midtgulen to Frøysjøen - here there is a slightly larger approx. 270m deep plateau with mixed bottom (clay, sand, rock). The big coalfish should then be one of the main fish in summer. We made the experience that pollock were very common in mean water between 40m - 120m - mostly where the fjords were particularly deep (up to 300m). Best time: the last 2 hours before high tide.
